Kingston is a small town in the south of New Zealand's Otago region. It lies at the southern end of Lake Wakatipu, 48 km south of Queenstown and 61 km north-east of Lumsden.

The town was at the place of Māori settlement Takerehaka. Later, the place was called after leading on the Otago goldfields supervision Police Commissioner St. John Branigan " St Johns ". The present name was presumably awarded by Irish immigrants for a place in Ireland.

The headwaters of the Mataura River is located nearby.

The place was today's tourist train Kingston Flyer his name. It runs on a 14- km section of the former branch line Kingston Branch, which until 1979 was in operation in 1878.

The Farming village has a 9- hole golf course.
