Kinnaur district

Kinnaur (Hindi: किन्नौर Kinnaur [ kɪnnɔ ː r] ) is one of twelve districts of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It lies on the border of Tibet Autonomous Region ( People's Republic of China) in the Himalayas. The capital is Rekong Peo.

Kinnaur is consistently high, between about 1,200 meters on the level of the valleys and mountain peaks over 6,000 meters. One of the highest mountains of the Hindu and Buddhist sacred Kinnaur Kailash ( 6050 meters).

Culturally and ethnology, the region is a mixture of Tibetan and Indo- Aryan influences dar. Major Temple integrated into Hinduism indigenous mountain religion in the lower Kinnaur ( Sungra, Nichar among others, also Sangla Valley and Chini ), a thousand -year-old Buddhist monasteries in the upper Kinnaur ( Kanum, Nako, Charang ).

The total population is 84,121 inhabitants ( census 2011) is relatively low compared to other Indian districts. Residents Kinnaurs almost exclusively live in small settlements above the steep Satlej Valley and in neighboring valleys. Economically dominated agriculture ( fruit growing, forestry), tourism is in development.
