Kionix

Kionix, Inc. is a U.S. manufacturer of MEMS inertial sensors based based in Ithaca. The company employs approximately 1,000 employees and is a 100 % subsidiary of the Japanese semiconductor company ROHM Co., Ltd.. Kionix develops and produces micromechanical silicon devices, which have their origin in research at Cornell University. The company has focused on inertial sensors including SW development tools and custom application support for motion-based computer games: specialized user interfaces for mobile handsets, portable navigation devices, TV remote controls, as well as hard drive case protects portable electronic products ( eng. motion -based gaming ). The products of Kionix also be used in automotive, industrial and health sectors. Kionix is ISO 9001:2008 and TS16949 certified.

History

Kionix was (MEMS ) in 1993 with the focus of silicon-based micromechanical acceleration sensors. In November 2009, took over the Japanese semiconductor company Rohm Co., Ltd.. Kionix.

Products

Kionix provides micro-electro- mechanical sensors such as 3-axis accelerometers and angular rate sensors ( gyroscopes ), including a mixed-signal interface semiconductor device which processes the sensor data and analyzes. The products and technologies from Kionix include:

  • Acceleration sensors in low-g or -g mid - range with one, two or three axes;
  • Rotational speed sensors for the x, y or z-axis
  • Power management options and self-test functions

The electrical connection to the sensors is realized either by digital I ² C or SPI interface and / or analog outputs.
