Kiowa County (Kansas)

Kiowa County is a county located in the state of Kansas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Greensburg. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in southern Kansas, is about 45 km from Oklahoma and has an area of 1872 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Edwards County, Pratt County, Barber County, Comanche County, Clark County and Ford County.

History

Kiowa County was formed on 26 February 1867. It was named after the Indian tribe of Kiowa. On 4 May 2007 Greensburg was a large area destroyed by a tornado. When Tornado 9 people were killed first reportedly, a good 95 % of the population were doing homeless.
