Kiowa County (Kansas)
Kiowa County is a county located in the state of Kansas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Greensburg. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.
Geography
The County is located in southern Kansas, is about 45 km from Oklahoma and has an area of 1872 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Edwards County, Pratt County, Barber County, Comanche County, Clark County and Ford County.
History
Kiowa County was formed on 26 February 1867. It was named after the Indian tribe of Kiowa. On 4 May 2007 Greensburg was a large area destroyed by a tornado. When Tornado 9 people were killed first reportedly, a good 95 % of the population were doing homeless. The responsible for the devastation of the city tornado is classified in the EF6 strength category and is the May 2007 Tornado Outbreak with a total of over 133 individual events belong.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Kiowa County 3278 people in 1365 households and 924 families in Kiowa County. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 97.19 percent White, 0.21 percent African American, 0.61 percent Native American, 0.27 percent Asian, and 0.98 percent from other races; 0.73 percent were descended from two or more races. 2.04 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 1365 households out of which 27.7 percent of children under 18 who lived with them. 59.6 percent were married couples living together, 5.3 percent were single mothers and 32.3 percent were non-families. 30.5 percent of all households were single-person households and 15.5 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.32 and the average family size was 2.89 persons.
24.0 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 8.2 percent 18 to 24 years 21.8 percent between 25 and 44, 24.6 percent between 45 and 64 years, and 21.3 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 96.3 males. For every 100 adult women 18 years and older 95.1 males.
The median income for a household was $ 31,576, and the median income for a family was $ 40,950. Males had a median income of $ 29,063, women $ 20,764. The per capita income was $ 17,207. 7.4 percent of families and 10.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
