Kipushi

Kipushi is an archaeological place and a city in the province of Katanga in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The city at 1329 meters above sea level today has 174 429 inhabitants (2003 ) and is 28 kilometers south-west of Lubumbashi near the border with Zambia. It follows a clear urban planning. It formed in 1920 around a mining ( Mine de l' Étoile de la Kalukuluku ), which promotes since 1909. New economic basis should a mine be ore with 26 million tons, which has 2.18 percent copper and 19 percent zinc. Kipushi has a hospital, primary and secondary schools, a post office, a town center with shopping malls. It is connected to the rail network of the Société Nationale des Chemins de fer du Congo. Language is Kiswahili, although the area is inhabited by the tribe of the Lunda.

Archaeology has found in Kipushi some artifacts. The pieces are ceramics ( C-14 dated 1440) of the Iron Age from 800 to be assigned. They are summarized with the finds in Kansanshi, Kapwirimbwe, Chondwe, Roan Antelope, Luano Cave and Kangonga in Zambia.
