History

Even before the ninth century, there were the first signs of human habitation. The Altsiedelland to the Else was inhabited by Saxon Engern, which were then Christianized the Great around 800 by the Franks under Charlemagne and subject. Since the 12th century there first mentions the church today Kirchlengern. Presumably in 1147 the Bishop of Osnabrück, Philip of Katzenelenbogen, the monastery Quernheim had founded as an Augustinian nunnery. Their Basilica ( Collegiate Church ) dates from the 12th century, but was rebuilt several times and probably goes back on a sacred predecessor. The district pin Quernheim making it probably one of the first permanent settlements Kirchlengerns. Of Herford Abbey in 1150, 1151 and Südlengern Rehmerloh The districts were Häver (referred to as Hevere ) Kirchlengern ( Linegaron ) and Quernheim ( Quernem ) mentioned in writing in the late 12th century in the lifting role. Monastery peasantry (originally on Low German: beym Burschop Closter ) evolved as peasantry around the monastery in pen Quernheim. The name for this district is, however, probably emerged only in the 18th century. During the Reformation, the monastery in pen Quernheim 1532 was converted into a free secular convent. After the Peace of Westphalia of 1648, the Principality of Minden fell ( area north of Elsevier ) and the County Ravens Mountain (south of the Else ) to Brandenburg- Prussia. From 1807 to 1810 the area was part of the Napoleonic Kingdom of Westphalia. From 1811 to 1813 the entire present-day municipality was incorporated into France. 1813 (1815 officially ) it fell again to Prussia. On 1 December 1810, the aristocratic ladies seminary was closed to cross home and its possessions in 1815 handed over to Prussia, who managed it until 1832 as a domain. 1832, the district court was founded in 1816 in Quernheim was moved to frets. Mayor Wilhelm Bacmeister began in 1860 so that the freehold of the pen, to which a good and a manor belonged, divided into plots for sale. Thus was formed by settlers from the pen lands since 1860, the 161 ha comprehensive community pin Quernheim with small houses and small peasant ownership.

Around the middle of the 19th century collapsed with the emergence of mechanical looms the pure craftsmanship of flax fiber, also occurred in the years 1847-1850 to crop failures. Economic improvement finally brought a road connection from Herford to Luebbecke via Kirchlengern (now B239 ) and the construction of a railway from wages towards Osnabrück ( Hanoverian Western Railway, inauguration 1855). Since 1855 Kirchlengern thus has a train station. 1904 From here, was also a cross connection to the railway line Hamm- Minden through Herford and Bielefeld. Between 1897 and 1937 Kirchlengern termination stop was also a small railway line to Oberlübbe that mainly served the transport of ore, but also persons transported ( " Wallücker Willem ").

From 1843 to 1918 Kirchlengern belonged to the district of Gohfeld - Mennighüffen, 1919, a private office Kirchlengern - forerunner of today's church. 1929, the formerly independent estate districts Oberbehme and stone finishes ( formerly the district of Herford or frets ) were released and came to the office district Kirchlengern.
