Kirchzell is the geographically largest municipality in the district of Miltenberg and manages 1,300 hectares of forest inventory. The municipality is located in Geo - Bergstraße -Odenwald. The sandstone area is drained by forest stream, Fork and Mud creek as the Main river.

Name

Etymology

The name Kirchzell consists of the Middle High German words church and Celle, within the meaning of the farmyard. The church- in the name refers to the local church, confirming the spelling of 1534 Kirch cell.

History

Kirchzell is a municipality with 1,200 years of history. Kirchzell owes its founding the Benedictine Abbey in Amorbach. In 1168 the monastery Amorbach and thus Kirchzell came under the rule of the Lords of Dürn. This princely family built on Preunschener Mountain Castle Wildenberg (including game Castle), which was a highlight of the Burgenbaues the Staufer period. 100 years later the noble lords of Dürn sold their lands to the Archbishop of Mainz. In 1700 Kirchzell was made a center of the community " church Zeller cause" market rights. Museums

  • Forest Museum in the " Watt Erbacher house," in the district Preunschen. The Wadden Erbacher house is a so-called Wohnstallhaus house and is considered one of the oldest farmhouses in the Odenwald. The "First column house " was built around 1475. Originally it stood in Watterbach. 1982 was transferred to Preunschen. Kirchzell has since 1891 a glee club, which now consists of four choirs.

Curiosities

Kirchzell
