In 1992, he took for Canada at the Olympic Games in Barcelona and lost early against David Izon. His record was 82-7 (82 wins, 7 losses ).

Professional career

In 1993, the very religious Johnson turned professional. In his eighth professional fight he beat Ross Puritty on points. His talent, especially his speed was obvious, as a rule he was very austrainiert. His impact was rather average, so he could Danell Nicholson hit only on points. The main problem, however, seemed to be his psyche, against the ex - cruiserweight Al Cole he succeeded in 1998, only a draw because he repeatedly points were deducted for low blows.

In 2000, he was thus against Oleg Maskajew as an outsider. After initially balanced fight, however, he succeeded in the fourth round a spectacular KO: He hit Maskajew out of the ring, just as it was Maskajew previously succeeded against Hasim Rahman. He then defeated in an eliminator for the first position in the WBA rankings Larry Donald on points.

On July 27, it came to clash with WBA champion John Ruiz. Johnson again seemed not to be master of his nerves and the abgezockte Ruiz marked on every shot near the waistline an illegal hit. So Johnson was eventually disqualified for low blows in the tenth round.

In 2003, he won against Lou Savarese prematurely and was allowed to compete in an elimination bout against Vitali Klitschko WBC, but lost significantly overweight in the second -round technical knockout.

In 2006, he was injured against Javier Mora and had to deal with dislocated knee up the fight. The fight was initially gewerten as a technical knockout, later, the result, however, was then canceled because Mora Johnson had stepped on the foot in case of injury.
