Kirk Alan McLean ( born June 26, 1966 in Willowdale, Ontario ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender for the New Jersey Devils, Vancouver Canucks, Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers and New York Rangers played from 1985 to 2001 in the National Hockey League.

Career

As a junior he played with the Oshawa Generals in the Ontario Hockey League. The New Jersey Devils selected him in the NHL Entry Draft in 1984 in the sixth round as the 107th out.

In the season 1985/86 he came to his debut in the NHL, but the Devils were brilliantly cast in the gate, so he played in his first two seasons, mostly with the Maine Mariners in the American Hockey League and only six games in the NHL denied. One of those who strove with him to the place in goal for the Devils, Karl Friesen was.

Shortly before the beginning of the season 1987/88 he moved to the Vancouver Canucks. There, played the 35- year-old Richard Brodeur, who helped him in his first season as a goalkeeper. For ten years he was a regular goalkeeper of the Canucks. After a very good 1991/92 season, in which he was elected to the Second All-Star team and only just missed out on winning the Vezina Trophy, he led his team in the season 1993/94 until the final series for the Stanley Cup, where they lost against the New York Rangers.

Very varied was the season 1997 /98. In early January, he was delivered by Martin Gélinas for Sean Burke, Geoff Sanderson and Enrico Ciccone to the Carolina Hurricanes. In March he was sent for Ray Sheppard to the Florida Panthers on. With the Panthers, he went into the following season. The 1999/2000 season he played for the New York Rangers and was there for two years back-up for Mike Richter.

Together with former players like Bill Ranford and Dave Lowry he is one of the owners of the junior team of Burnaby Express.
