History

The community Kirkel is created on the occasion of municipal reform on 1 January 1974 from the previously independent municipalities Kirkel- Neuhäusel, Limbach at Homburg and Old Town. A branch of Kirkel- Neuhäusel with then more than 400 inhabitants ( Eschweilerhof ) was reclassified to Neunkirchen / Saar.

The urbanization Bavarian cabbage yard that belonged to the town of Limbach at Homburg, was also awarded the city of Neunkirchen / Saar on 1 January 1975. Against this assignment as well as against the cession of Eschweiler Court's new community Kirkel as well as the former municipalities Kirkel- Neuhäusel or Limbach had lodged a constitutional complaint with the Constitutional Court of the Saarland. This was rejected by the judgment of 17 November 1975. After the government of Saarland announced in 1979 to try to verify the controversial restructuring measures once again, it came in February 1980 to great efforts of the community Kirkel to regain the ceded territories. The town of Neunkirchen was not willing to negotiate. On 10 May 1983, the Government of the Saar issued an ordinance in the reclassification of the inhabited parts of the Bavarian cabbage farm in the municipality of Kirkel. The town of Neunkirchen, however, went to court and got on January 30, 1984 Legal; because the Constitutional Court upheld the action. Thus, the disputed territory remained in Neunkirchen. Finally, the Landtag of Saarland on January 30, 1984 passed a law with which the inhabited parts of the settlement Bavarian Kohlhof finally the community Kirkel were awarded with effect from 1 April 1985. The area came to the hamlet of Limbach.

The districts have a much longer history, the castle Kirkel was first mentioned in documents in 1075. Already existed in today's Holler Holler holes, the castle, which probably originated in the 9th century.

The village Kirkel- Neuhäusel emerged in the late Middle Ages, at the foot of the castle hill. The place Limbach was first mentioned in 1219. The Old Town is the original Limbach. In the 13th century shifted the center, so that the old place ( old site ) remained.
