Kirschau ( sorb. Korzym ) is a town in Saxony, Bautzen district, 8 km south of the district town of Bautzen. He was an independent municipality until 31 December 2010 and has since been one of the city Schirgiswalde - Kirschau.

Geography

Kirschau located in the Lusatian mountains, nestled in the valley of the River Spree and the Pilke, between the Mönchswalder mountain ( 449 m ) and the larch mountain ( 354 m).

The site is bounded by Großpostwitz in the north, Crostau in the east, the south and Schirgiswalde Wilthen in the West.

History

In 1352 Kirschau was first mentioned in connection with the destruction of the castle Körse. As the Thirty Years War in 1634 came to Upper Lusatia Saxony, was Kirschau border town. It was built a customs station to the neighboring Bohemia.
