Kirsten Wenzel

Kirsten Wenzel ( born February 27, 1961 in Leipzig) is a former coxswain in rowing from the GDR. 1980 she succeeded in foursomes with control women's Olympic victory.

The Padagogikstudentin approached for the SC DHfK Leipzig and trained with Herta Weissig. The World Rowing Championships 1978, the East German foursome with Kersten Neisser, Angelika Noack, Marita Sand, Ute Skorupski and Kirsten Wenzel won. In the same occupation, the boat was in 1979 GDR champion and finished at the World Championships in second place behind the boat from the Soviet Union. At the Olympic Games in 1980 the foursome came with a different line to Ramona Kapheim, Silvia Cheerful, Angelika Noack, Romy Saalfeld and Kirsten Wenzel won with just over a second ahead of the Bulgarians, the Soviet world champions finished third. For this achievement, she was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver. 1981 won Saalfeld, Sand, Cheerful and Wenzel together with Sabine Porcius the title at the East German championships. At the World Championships in Munich in 1981 Viola Kestler sat for Porcius in the boat, the East German rowers finished second behind the Soviet boat. 1982 contributed Kirsten Wenzel GDR aft to world championship bronze. She succeeded in 1983 after her marriage to the swimmer Rainer Bach straw. This marriage was later divorced.
