Kisho Kurokawa

Kisho Kurokawa (Japanese黒 川 纪 章, Kurokawa Kisho, born April 8, 1934 in Nagoya, † October 12, 2007 in Tokyo ) was a well known beyond the borders of Japan also architect who has found particular as a representative of the metabolism of worldwide attention.

Life

After studying architecture in Kyoto and Tokyo Kisho Kurokawa was at the age of 26 years with Kiyonori Kikutake, Fumihiko Maki, Sachio Otaka and Noboin Kawazoe a co-founder of the metabolism movement in Japan, which pursued the idea of ​​the life cycle of birth and growth on transferred to urban planning and architecture. Conducive here was certainly the work as a student with Kenzo Tange, where the traditional Japanese architecture was associated with Western thought patterns. In 1961 he founded his own office and engaged in high-tech components and prefabrication. In 1964 Kurokawa received his doctorate at the University of Tokyo. He was a professor at the International Academy of Architecture in Sofia.

Kisho Kurokawa died on 12 October 2007 at the age of 73 from heart failure.

Work

According to the Metabolists to buildings and cities must be able to flexibly adapt to the changing needs of users. When Nakagin Capsule Tower in Tokyo from 1970 residential capsules were mounted on a tower. Mega structures also influenced the designs for the Floating City in Kasumigaura and the Expo Pavilion 1970 in Osaka.
