Kiskunhalas

Kiskunhalas [ kiʃkunhɒlɒʃ ] ( German: Hallasch ) is a city in Bács -Kiskun 130 km south of Budapest in Hungary.

History

The name of the city is made up of Kis ( "small" ), kun for the people of the Cumans and halas for the former abundance of fish (hal - " fish"; halas - ' with many fish ') of the surrounding lakes together. The city's origins can be traced back to the eighth century. From some 895 settlements existed in the present area, their first written mention was the city in 1347.

In the 16th and 17th century, the Reformation introduction held in Kiskunhalas. Until 1754, the city the center of the region Kiskunsági ( Small Kumanei ) was due to the strong popular support for Protestantism they lost this position. A Roman Catholic, 1823 1770 was built a Presbyterian church. 1910, the city had a population of 25,000 for the first time.
