Kislev

Kislev / כסלו is the third month after the " bourgeois " Jewish calendar and the ninth month of the " religious " calendar. The length of the month is variable, that is, it can take both 29 and 30 days. According to the Gregorian calendar of Kislev begins around the middle of November.

The name comes from the Akkadian Kislev and means "thick", indicating the thick rain clouds of the onset of winter rains.

All Jewish month names date from the time of the Babylonian exile. In the Tanakh the term Kislev twice (publication 7.1 LUT and LUT Neh 1.1 ) occupied.

After Mishnah Rosh Hashanah 1.3 of Kislev was one of the months in which they sent out messengers because of the announcement of the observed new moon. Reason for this is that the hard Hanukkah, which begins on the 25th of the month, should be committed.
