Kisvárda

Kisvárda [ kiʒva rdɒ ː ] ( German Kleinwardein ) is a town in Szabolcs -Szatmár -Bereg county in Northeast Hungary and has about 18,000 inhabitants. It is located about 50 km northeast of Nyíregyháza near the border with Ukraine and Slovakia.

History

The Bishop of Eger ( Agria ), Anthony Verantius ( Verancsics ), wrote in a letter to King Maximilian of Bohemia on April 2, 1559 that Kisvárda was at the time of the Transylvanian troops of Queen Isabella and their son, John Sigismund, besieged. These were then on the side of the Turks, the beleaguered rest Hungary arg.
