Kitaazumi District, Nagano

Hakuba -gun (Japanese北 安 昙 郡, dt " North Azumi -gun " ) is a county ( gun) in Nagano Prefecture on the main Japanese island of Honshu. It has an area of 544.54 km ², 33 386 inhabitants and thus a population density of 61.3 inhabitants per km ² (as of March 1, 2010). The abbreviation of the county name is Hokuan. Hakuba -gun is divided by the area of ​​the independent city ( shi) Ōmachi into two parts. At Hakuba -gun houses the district ( machi ) and three villages ( mura ). In the southern part there are the city of Ikeda and the village Matsukawa. In the northern part there are the villages of Hakuba and Otari.

History

Hakuba -gun came into being on January 14, 1879 by the division of the old Azumi -gun in Hakuba -gun and Minamiazumi -gun ( Südazumi -gun ). The latter was dissolved in 2005 with the establishment of the independent city Azumino. Seat of that county government was Ōmachi. On April 1, 1889 included 17 villages to Hakuba -gun, but Ōmachi was already on April 10, 1889 appointed to the city. On April 1, 1915, Ikeda was appointed to the city. Before the great territorial reform of the 1950s were Hakuba -gun at two towns and 15 villages. The first wide- area reform on July 1, 1954 Ōmachi was acyclic. Other municipal amalgamations followed in the years 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958 and 1959. 1960, Hakuba -gun only one town and five villages. The last local government reform took place on 1 January 2006 when the villages Miasa and Yasaka were merged with Ōmachi.
