Kitasaku District, Nagano

Kitasaku -gun ( Japanese:北 佐 久 郡, dt "North- Saku -gun " ) is a county ( gun) in Nagano Prefecture on the main Japanese island of Honshu. It has an area of 281.65 km ², 40 121 inhabitants and a population density of 142 inhabitants per km ² (as of March 1, 2010). It consists of the three towns ( machi ) Karuizawa, Miyota and Tateshina.

History

Kitasaku -gun came into being on January 14, 1879 by a division of the old Saku -gun Kitasaku -gun and Minamisaku -gun ( "South- Saku -gun "). Seat of that county government was Iwamurata. On April 1, 1889 included two towns and 26 villages ( mura ) to Kitasaku -gun. On 1 August 1923, the village Higashinagakura was appointed to the city and renamed in Karuizawa. On May 8, 1942 Nishinagakura was merged with Karuizawa. This included in 1950, before the great territorial reform of the 50s, three cities and 24 villages to Kitasaku -gun. The large area of ​​reform of the 50s eventually caused major changes in the local structure of the district. On April 1, 1961 was established through the merger of two municipalities in Kitasaku -gun and Minamisaku -gun the independent city of Saku.
