Geography

Kitzscher located in Leipzig lowlands, on the edge of the middle Saxon hill country. The city is located about 25 km south of Leipzig and about 3 km east of the county town of Borna. With the heap Trages is located in the municipality one of the highest elevations in the Leipzig area.

History

History

In a Deed in Grimsby monastery, the village was first mentioned in 1251 and is in his name to a 1676 extinct noble family, especially Guntherus de Kiczschere.

The oldest building in the village is the church, which dates back to around 1200. In 1685 it was rebuilt, expanded. From 1787 was Gustav Friedrich Dinter as a preacher ( Pfarrsubstitut ) and from 1790 served as pastor until his removal to Dresden. With development of brown coal mining also changed the character of the place. In the 40s of the 20th century a mining camp was built to designs by the architect Leipzig Schiemichen. It is the largest preserved mining settlement of industrialization in Saxony. As a consequence, the population is increasing. On October 5, 1974 Kitzscher receives city rights.
