Kizza Besigye

Kizza Besigye ( born April 22, 1956 in Rukungiri ) is a Ugandan politician.

Besigye's parents died when he was still a child. Nevertheless, he succeeded in 1980, successfully complete his studies in medicine at Makerere University in Kampala. He first worked in the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi (Kenya ), but thereafter devoted himself to his military training and joined the National Resistance Army (NRA ) to.

Together with the late President Yoweri Museveni he fought from 1980 to 1986 against President Milton Obote, which ended with the seizure of power Museveni. Besigye was awarded the post of minister of internal affairs. In the following years, he held several political positions and had 2001 eventually held the rank of colonel and was the top adviser to the Ministry of Defence.

His first candidacy against his former comrades Museveni, Besigye had lost on 12 March 2001 with 27.8 per cent against 69.3 per cent. Besigye is today still the opposition leader of his country and returned end of November 2005 from exile to Uganda back to compete in the presidential election on 23 February 2006. Museveni had this immediately after his entry on 14 November in Kampala alleged treason and rape of a then 20 -year-old arrested in 1997 or 1998. On 1 February, the Supreme Court of Uganda declared the military proceedings against Besigye unconstitutional, the parallel rape trial, the jury recommended a day later acquitted.

The incumbent president accuses him to have requested support from Rwanda, Congo and rebels from Sudan to overthrow him.

This charge is classified by the foreign media as untrustworthy because Besigye President of the Forum for Democracy and Change ( FDC) is. This is an alliance of Ugandan opposition groups. On 2 January 2006 Besigye was provisionally set free, while the process continues to run. On election day, however, he won only 37.36 percent of the vote, so that Museveni remained in office.

In the parliamentary and presidential elections in February 2011, Besigye was defeated his political rivals Museveni again. On Besigye accounted for 26 % of votes to Museveni 68%.
