Kjell Magne Bondevik

Kjell Magne Bondevik? / I [ çɛl maŋnə bunəvi ː k] ( born September 3, 1947 in Molde) is a Norwegian politician of the Christian People's Party (KrF ) and former Prime Minister of Norway.

Life

Bondevik studied at the private School of Theology in Oslo in 1975 and received his degree. In 1979 he was ordained as pastor of the Lutheran state church. He is married to Bjørg Bondevik (born Rasmussen) and has three children.

Political career

From 1973 to 2005 Bondevik sat for KrF in the Storting. He was 1981-2001 multiple Group Chairman and 1983-1995 chairman of the party. From 1983 to 1986 he served in the cabinet of Kåre Willoch as Minister of Church and Education and from 1989 to 1990 under Jan P. Syse as Foreign Minister.

On October 17, 1997, he was first prime minister of his country and his party faced a coalition with the Centre Party and the liberal Venstre party. It was the first cabinet since 1973, which neither the Labor Party nor the conservative Høyre party belonged. It was considered Eurosceptic and sought no recording of Norway to the EU on.

During his first term as Prime Minister Bondevik attracted international attention in August 1998 when he admitted to suffering from depression. He was the most senior politicians, who admitted the suffering from mental problems during his tenure. Anne Enger Lahnstein took over the official duties during his treatment for three weeks. On 3 March 2000, he had the office of Jens Stoltenberg leave of the Labour Party, after he lost a vote of confidence in connection with the expansion of gas turbine power plants in Parliament.

After the Labour Party suffered a heavy defeat in the general election in 2001, Bondevik was on 19 October 2001 a second time Prime Minister. He led a minority government of Christian People's Party, Conservative and liberal Venstre. In the elections on 12 September 2005 he lost to the opposition alliance of Labour Party, Socialist Left and Centre Party and was succeeded by Jens Stoltenberg again on 17 October 2005. Bondevik took after leave of Norwegian politics.
