KkStB Class 99

The steam locomotives of the kkStB 99 were tank locomotives of the kk Austrian State Railways for use on local railways.

History

1897 began the delivery of kkStB series 99, which fulfilled the required conditions (300 hp). With good coal it has even 400 hp. By 1908 69 units were built, came to 1903-1907 still 5 to NÖLB as number 2, which were used on the local railway Korneuburg - Hohenau. The kkStB machines were to be found in the regions of Karlovy Vary, Ljubljana and Knittel field. Five 99s were also on the Vienna suburbs line before light strokes in use. Noteworthy is the use of the Carlsbad locomotives on the steep section of the local railway Schlackenwerth - Joachimsthal with slopes up to 50 per thousand.

Between 1908 and 1913, 20 locomotives series 199 were built, a development that could take a larger water storage and more coal. These machines went on the routes Bolzano-Merano, Krems - Mauthausen and on the AC range of Aspangbahn. The same model was built in nine copies for the NÖLB as number 102 and used on the track free- Türnitz (see Leobersdorfer train).

After the First World War, Italy received eight pieces (FS 876 and 877) ), Yugoslavia 13 ( JDZ 153) and Czechoslovakia 34 pieces of that series. In the remaining 34 BBÖ locomotives retained their kkStB numbers. As part of the nationalization of the locomotives of NÖLB 1923 came to BBÖ where they got the numbers 99.70-74 (formerly Series 2 ) and 199.21-29 (formerly row 102 ).

Used these locomotives were in the interwar period, primarily on the branch lines in Wels, Bad Radkersburg and Poechlarn, but also on many other local railways. In takeover by the German Reichsbahn 1938, the locomotives of the 99 received the numbers 98.1301-1324, the 199er assigned the numbers 98.1352-1374. 1941, the JDZ 153-002, 004, 008, 009 for a few months with the MÁV and contributed at least on paper, the term 376.1002, 1004, 1008 and 1009.

Of the ÖBB 1953 15 left 99er were taken as a series of 91 and 9 pieces as a 199er series 91.1. The last two digits of the serial numbers remained the same as in the BBÖ. In 1960 a type concentration, so that most locomotives were to be found in Wiener Neustadt and Miirzzuschlag. Until 1968, all locomotives were retired by three copies.

The last application area of ​​these three locomotives was the local railway Miirzzuschlag -Neuberg. 1972, they were retired. The operative condition in Austria remained Museum locomotive 91 107 is located in the railway museum Schwechat and is the property of the Association of railway enthusiasts.
