KlaipÄ—da Chamber Orchestra

The Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra ( lit. Valletta kamerinis orkestras ) is a chamber orchestra founded in 1992 in the port city of Klaipeda, the third largest city in Lithuania. Director since June 2009, the cellist Mindaugas Backus.

History

The initiator and longtime art director of the orchestra was the violist Liuda Kuraitienė. In December 1992, the first concert was held in the hall of the Faculty of Arts, Valletta universitetas. The first conductor was Dmitrij Zlotnik. The chamber orchestra was a member of the Music Center of the Municipality of Klaipeda. Today it is a music group from Valletta koncertu Sale. Subsequent conductors were Saulius Sondeckis, Robertas Servenikas, Modestas Pitrėnas, Donatas Katkus, Martynas Staškus, Vytautas Lukočius.

The orchestra over 400 concerts in Lithuania and abroad: Latvia, Kaliningrad (Russia), Poland, Germany and Ukraine. It participated in festivals such as Valletta Muzikos Pavasaris, Permainų muzika, Salve Musica Alternatyva, Pax Et Bonum, Resurexit, Summer Festival Tytuvėnai, Pažaislis Festival, Paežeriai, Uzutrakis, Festival of the Baltic cities of Szczecin and sacred music festival Gdynia ( Poland). The orchestra represented Lithuania in the Lithuanian Culture Days in Hessen.
