Border crossing Klammljoch

The Klammljoch is an alpine crossing between the Rieserfernergruppe in the south and in the north Venedigergruppe at 2288 meters above sea level and connects Campo Tures by the Valle Reintal and Knuttental in South Tyrol with St. Jakob in Defereggen in East Tyrol.

On Osttiroler page closes at Klammljoch the Arvental as the rearmost part of the Defereggentals. The Arvental, Schwarzachtal and Jagdhausalm are today, due to centuries of grazing rights, managed by South Tyrolean farmers, although these pastures are located in Austria. Of those farmers who otherwise blocked driveway is utilized by the Klammljoch especially to get to their Osttiroler pastures.

Since 1919, the border between Austria and Italy extends beyond the Klammljoch. The yoke is also the border between the Rieserferner Ahrn and the National Park Hohe Tauern.

To the west of the yoke is at about 2250 meters of small Klammlsee and 1911 meters on the Knuttenalm.

Coming over the Klammljoch the Defereggental was settled from the 11th century.

The Klammljoch is closed to vehicle traffic, but can be traveled by bike. Between Riva di Tures and the House of Lords - Alm in Defereggental the road has gravel road. In South Tyrolean side, the road can be traveled by car to the walkers car park, just behind Riva di Tures to Klammljoch by the public. On the East Tyrolean side the road may be, for Klammljoch of the public to the House of Lords are Alm (1786 meters) traveled by car, being here from the junction of the Defereggentalstraße the Staller Sattel at Erlsbach a toll is payable.
