Klang River

The sound is a 120 km long river in West Malaysia, which flows through the capital city of Kuala Lumpur and ends at Port Klang in the Straits of Malacca.

Geography

The sound source in the highlands about 25 km northeast of the capital. It flows through the city of the same sound and also gave Kuala Lumpur, which means muddy estuary, its name. The main tributaries are Gombak, Batu, Kerayong, Damansara, Keruh, Kuyoh, Penchala and Ampang.

Use

The valley is one of the strongest polluted areas of the country; as well as the river itself is heavily contaminated with sewage. The industrial area is served by Port Klang in the Delta from. 2004 Port sound was the seventh largest port in the world. The strong development of the shore narrows the sound and regularly leads to flooding in Kuala Lumpur. Two dams are used for irrigation of about 1288 km ² large area.

End of 2006, a private company got the rights to use the river, especially for the mining of sand. The contract with a term of 30 years also contains a clause that requires the entity to improve the water quality by 2010 significantly. SMART, a large drainage tunnel is to reduce the flooding in the capital.
