Klaus on the Pyhrnbahn is a municipality in the district of Kirchdorf an der Krems in Upper Austria Traun quarter, with 1087 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ), and counts as the northernmost municipality Pyhrn-Priel region.

Geography

Klaus on the Pyhrnbahn is on 466 m altitude in Traun quarter in a narrow part of the Steyr. The extension is from north to south 13.6 kilometers, 13.3 kilometers from west to east. The total area is 108.1 km ². 80.9 % of the area is forested, 6.6% of the area is used for agriculture.

History

Archaeological finds show that the wooded, barren Strait of Klaus already committed at least in the Bronze Age by people who were perhaps even inhabited. Due to the natural conditions later led a Roman road, the former course is visible in some places today, by the Steyr with Klaus.

From spring 1973 until the end of June 1975, the Ennskraftwerke AG built the Steyr river power plant Klaus. The reservoir thus created is used as a recreational area. Traffic

Train

Since time immemorial, through Klaus an important north -south connection. In 1887 Klaus was connected with the Krems Valley Railway on the railway network. 1906 this line was extended by Selzthal ( Pyhrnbahn ). Personalities

  • Josef Moser ( born February 27, 1812 in PARZ, community Gries churches, † April 27, 1893 in Steyr), in this country known as Bader Moser, was an Austrian physician and local poet.
