Klaus Biesenbach

Klaus Biesenbach ( b. 1966 in Kurten, Bergisch Land) is a German art historian, cultural manager and director of the New York MoMA PS1 Kunsthalle ( Queens ), which belongs to the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Life

Biesenbach first studied medicine, but he abandoned his studies. When he television images of the fall of the Berlin Wall saw during a stay in New York ( 1989), he decided to pull to Berlin. He rented there with fellow students, a former margarine factory in Berlin -Mitte, called "Art works" and offered there in no time a highly regarded international program of exhibitions and guest studios for artists and clubs.

Since 1996, he organized parallel exhibitions at the MoMA PS1, a contemporary art institution in a former school in Queens ( borough of New York City ), which was established in 1999 affiliated to the " Museum of Modern Art ". Biesenbach was, inter alia, curator of the Shanghai Biennale in 1997 and the youngest member of the international jury for the Venice Biennale. Since 2004 he has been chief curator of a newly founded for him the Department of Media Art " Museum of Modern Art ".
