Klaus Hirche

Klaus Hirche ( born June 7, 1939 in White Water ) is a former German professional ice hockey goaltender and coach.

Career

Klaus Hirche owes his career on a sighting of hockey players on the Jahn pond in white water in 1948 for a pioneering team. During his active time players that began in white water, played Hirche - except for one season as a ice hockey player - on the position of the ice hockey goalkeeper.

After his active player time he stayed with the Hockey connected and began to work as a coach. He coached four years the team of SG Dynamo white water and brought in this time three league titles. During the two years in which he worked as coach of the national hockey team of the German Democratic Republic, he took part twice in the world championships.

After the fall of Klaus Hirche ended his activity as a trainer and served until 2002 as a team leader of the Weißwasseraner.

Internationally

For the ice hockey team of the GDR Klaus Hirche took part in 118 games as a player and has participated in eight World Championships and at the Olympic Winter Games 1968.

As one of the first keeper, he played internationally with a mask. List them painted in black color brought Klaus Hirche the nickname "The Black Mask " field. A Swedish sports reporter coined this name during the Ice Hockey World Championship in 1963.

As a coach of the national team, he participated in another two World Cups.

Awards and achievements

Klaus Hirche won eleven league titles as a player and as a coach of the GDR another three.

He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame Germany.
