Klaus Iohannis

Klaus Werner Johannis ( born June 13, 1959 in Sibiu ) is a romania German teacher and politician. Since 2000 he is mayor of Sibiu. In addition, he was elected on February 23, 2013 First Deputy Chairman of the co-ruling National Liberal Party ( PNL). For Klaus Johannis, the rule has been overridden, that new party members may not immediately run for leadership posts - he had joined the party only four days before.

Policy

Locust after studying physics, first as a high school teacher in the German department of the Brukenthal Lyceum in Sibiu. In the late 1990s he became a general inspector of schools ( school board ) of the Sibiu County.

Mayor of Sibiu

In 2000 decided the Democratic Forum of Germans in Romania, the political representation of German-speaking minority to set up its own candidate for the mayoral elections in Sibiu, Klaus Johannis and nominated. Although the German population in Sibiu accounted for only a minority of less than 2 percent, locust was selected and thus the first German -born mayor of a Romanian city. In City Council locust worked in the first term with one of the Social Democratic Party (PSD, Social Democrat Partidul ) borne majority together.

2004 Locust was re-elected with 88.7 % of votes. Johannis was able to make good contacts with foreign investors from the German-speaking and European authorities and obtained that Sibiu was 2007 European (together with Luxembourg ) Capital of Culture. Large projects that have been in his term realized so far, were the now well-advanced urban renewal, the renewal of the entire urban infrastructure (roads, water and electricity supply, sanitation ) and the expansion of the airport according to Western European standards (2007 completed ). In the years 2008 and 2012 locust was re-elected as mayor of Sibiu. 2008 He received over 80 % of the vote, in 2012 almost 78 % of the vote.

Candidate for the office of the Prime Minister in

Since locust none of the major national parties Romanian party, he enjoys in the Romanian public reputation as a partisan person. The Democratic Forum of Germans in Romania, however, has always worked closely with the Partidul Naţional Liberal ( National Liberal Party ). After the dismissal of the Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc October 13, 2009 Johannis was proposed by several parties ( the National Liberal Party, the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania and other national minority parties ) as his successor. On October 14, 2009, locust officially declared candidacy ready. On October 15, however, President Traian Băsescu nominated Lucian Croitoru the economic expert as new prime minister. However, the parliamentary majority held on to John. The leader of the National Liberal Party and candidate in the presidential elections in Romania in 2009, Crin Antonescu, declared that he also wanted to locust appointed Prime Minister, if he wins the election.
