Klaus Kater

Klaus Kater ( born June 16, 1948 in Marie Heath in Oberbergi country ) is a former German handball goalkeeper.

He made his first steps on the handball court in Kotthausen. For VfL Gummersbach he played from 1966 until 1976. 1977 he moved to third division Bayer Leverkusen, with whom he rose several times in the second and first division. Particularly well known he was trying to imagine the seven-meter throw as close as possible in front of the shooter to conceal the gate better and so to provoke misses. That was still unusual. The successful method found many imitators, and it had a mark should be affixed to protect the crease in the allowable distance of three meters.

With the German national team he reached the 5th or 9th place at the World Championships in 1970 and 1974. At the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972 he has been with the same team in sixth.

The toolmaker is the father of two children. Since 1978 he works for the the Bayer plant in Leverkusen owned media company Dynevo GmbH. He is now retired.
