Klaus Katzur

Klaus Katzur ( born August 26, 1943 in Potsdam ) is a former swimming athlete from East Germany, who in 1972 won an Olympic silver medal in the medley relay.

Life

Although Katzur began at age 14 with the swimming, but not until 1963 he pursued seriously competitive sport. Klaus Katzur launched for the forward ASK Potsdam, and the then strongest breaststroke the GDR was active for the Egon Henninger. At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 Katzur occurred on the 200- meter breaststroke track, but different in the intermediate run from. 1965 Katzur could win his first individual title at GDR championships when he hit on the longer route chest Henninger. At the same championship he won on the 400 - meter medley track.

1966 won his first international medal Katzur when he takes on the long haul position behind his teammate Frank Wiegand Rostock and Andrei Dunajew from the Soviet Union won the bronze medal at the European Championships in Utrecht. At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City Katzur approached via both routes chest, but did not reach the finals again. Two years later at the European Championships 1970 in Barcelona Katzur won the competition over 200 meters breaststroke before Nikolai Pankin and Walter Kush. He also appeared for the first time instead of Henninger in the GDR medley relay. Together with Roland Matthes, Udo Poser and Lutz Unger, he won his second European title.

In his third at the Olympics in Munich in 1972 Katzur retired from the 100m breaststroke in the intermediate run. On the long haul chest, he reached the final, finishing in eighth place. With the DDR Medley Relay in the cast Roland Matthes, Klaus Katzur, Hartmut Lutz Unger Katzur Flöckner and won the end of his career, the Olympic silver medal behind the U.S. season.

Until 1987 Katzur stayed with the People's Navy, rising to as a youth coach for the Commander. Then he moved to Karl- Marx-Stadt, now Chemnitz.
