Klaus Ostwald

Klaus Ostwald ( born August 26, 1958 in Bad Elster ) is a former German ski jumper who competed in the GDR for the SC Dynamo Klingenthal.

Career

Klaus Ostwald in 1980 and 1984 took part in the Olympic Games, reached there but no front placement. On 31 January 1982, he won the jumping on the Gross- Titlis -Schanze in Engelberg his first World Cup competition. In the same year he won the large hill his only individual title at East Championships. His greatest achievement was winning the world title in ski jumping at the Ski Flying World Championships 1983 in Harrachov. He reached with his six jumps rating - the worst jump each of the three passages was canceled - a total score of 1051, which he directed world record holder Pavel Ploc ( 1045.5 ) and Matti Nykänen ( 1043.5 ) to the places. With the East German team, he was at the Nordic World Ski Championships 1984 in Engelberg in the team competition Second, at the Nordic World Ski Championships 1985 in Seefeld third parties. After Ostwald on the Oberhofer jump at the Rennsteig, now the Hans -Renner- Schanze, 1978-1981 held the record with 121 meters, he set in 1984 with a new record of 127 meters, which should remain in place until 1995. Shortly after Ostwald won the jumping tournament of friendship. In the Four Hills Tournament, he was the 1983/84 second and 1984/85 third overall.

His coaches were Jürgen Wolf and Herbert Leonhardt. In 1987, he ended his career. Since the 1990s, Ostwald operates a summer toboggan run in Muehlleithen at Klingenthal ( Vogtland).
