Klaus Rost

Klaus Rost ( born March 2, 1940 in Witten ) is a former German wrestler.

Career

Klaus rust began at age 12 with the rings in the KSV Witten 07 As early as 1958 he was German youth champion ( Greco-Roman style, to 62 kg body weight). The very next year he became German champion in the seniors for the first time. From then on began a successful wrestler career, which lasted until 1973.

As early as 1963 he won at the World Championships in Helsingborg in lightweight, after his move to local rivals sports UNION Annen, in the Greco-Roman style, a bronze medal. His biggest success was undoubtedly winning the Olympic silver medal at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo in lightweight, free style. Four years later, he missed at the Olympic Games in Mexico City with a 4th place in the Greco-Roman style only just a medal. Another good 4th place went Klaus rust at the World Championship 1969 in Mar del Plata.

Klaus rust won 16 German titles. He was one of the few wrestlers who was successful in two styles, the Greco-Roman and free style. His toughest competitors in this German Championships were Franz Schmitt from Aschaffenburg, Manfred Schöndorfer from Bad Reichenhall and Horst Bergmann from Lichtenfels.

After his playing days he was a youth coach in Witten.
