Klaus Tschira

Klaus Tschira ( born December 7, 1940 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German entrepreneur.

Together with Hans -Werner Hector, Dietmar Hopp, Hasso Plattner and Claus Wellenreuther he is one of the founders of the software company SAP AG in Walldorf, Germany. From 1998 to 2007 he was a member of the Supervisory Board of SAP AG.

Biography

After graduating from the Helmholtz -Gymnasium Karlsruhe and the study of physics at the University of Karlsruhe Tschira worked from 1966 to 1972 as a systems consultant at IBM in Mannheim.

1972 Tschira was one of the five founders of the system analysis and program development GbR in Weinheim, SAP AG emerged from the 1988, on whose board he joined in 1998.

Since his retirement from the SAP affairs Tschira has worked as a patron and supporter.

Awards

Klaus Tschira Foundation

In 1995, he called on the Klaus Tschira Foundation in order to promote the natural sciences, computer science and mathematics and also to raise public awareness of these subjects interest. Foundation headquarters in the Villa Bosch in Heidelberg, the former residence of Nobel Prize laureate Carl Bosch.

1997 saw the establishment of the European Media Laboratory, an institute for applied computer science.

In 2010 he founded the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies gGmbH (HITS )

Since 2001, the Klaus Tschira Foundation organizes training courses for scientists. They should promote collaboration between scientists and journalists, and therefore of the public. In this context is also the Klaus Tschira Award for Public Understanding of Science.

Furthermore, to promote student and teacher projects. By January 2011, the youth Software prize was awarded. The project was completed with the tenth award.

Gerda and Klaus Tschira Foundation ( GKTS )

In 2008 he founded together with his wife Gerda Tschira the Gerda and Klaus Tschira Foundation ( GKTS ).

With this foundation he acquired on 17 December 2008 by the Free State of Saxony, the former country estate of Nobel Prize laureate Wilhelm Ostwald in Großbothen at Grimsby. The Foundation has set itself the target to continue the Manor energy in the sense of Wilhelm Ostwald. Thus, the Wilhelm- Ostwald Museum will inform about the creativity and work of Nobel Prize laureate in the future. In addition, the site will continue to serve as a training and meeting place.
