Klaus Westebbe

Klaus Westebbe ( born September 30, 1949 in Gummersbach ) is a German handball player.

Westebbe began as a gymnast at TuS Derschlag, changed the age of eleven in the palm section of the club. There still in the left Rüchraum active, it went for the former toolmaker apprentice after his move in 1968 to VfL Gummersbach at the center of the circle. His debut in the Handball - Bundesliga he gave on October 5, 1968, two goals in 18:6 win against BSV Solingen 98th in his first season, he was German with Gummersbach Master, which should still five more to follow. At the national level, he was able to celebrate two successes in the DHB Cup and its 80 European matches he won at international level five European Cups.

His career in the DHB team began on 10 November 1971 at the Carpathian tournament in Galaţi against France. At the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, he was also part of the squad as the 1974 World Cup in the GDR. The 52nd and last international game he played as captain on January 4, 1975 with 15:12 win over Sweden in Minden. After national coach Vlado Stenzel opened the Gummersbacher that he no longer consider him among the top seven, whereupon Westebbe never wanted to play under Stenzel more.

On the advice of doctors Westebbe finished in the spring of 1982 due to high blood pressure and a heart muscle damage his career.

In 2007 Westebbe coached the B- youth and the second men's team of VfL Gummersbach.
