The river rises south-west of Scholes, then flows south through the Municipality Schwaförden, west of the city center of Sulingen past and where he will be Kuhbach on. She then continues to flow through the Municipality Kirchdorf and empties into Barenburg in the Große Aue.

The headwaters of the Little Aue lies in the southern part of the nature reserve Geest moor Klosterbachtal. Here at Moor Geest is a watershed. While the Small floodplain flows in a southerly direction to the Große Aue, springs from the same bog the monastery stream that flows in a northerly direction to the Ochtum.
