Kleinkahl is a municipality in the Lower Franconian district of Aschaffenburg and a member of the administrative community Schöllkrippen.

Geographical Location

Kleinkahl lies in the Bavarian Lower Main region, on the western edge of the Spessart, in the upper Kahlgrund at the two watercourses Bald and Little Bald.

Name

Etymology

The name Kleinkahl derives from the river Kahl, which flows through the town. The addition " Small" was used to distinguish the location of large Kahl, Sommerkahl, Feldkahl and Kahl am Main.

History

Part of today's municipal area was in the Archbishopric of Mainz and was secularized in 1803 in favor of arch-chancellor of Dalberg. The rest was in the reign Krombach the Counts of Schönborn and fell in the mediatization 1806, the Principality of Aschaffenburg. With it, the place came in 1814 Bavaria. In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria emerged with the community of 1818 the municipalities Kleinkahl, large and small Laudenbach Laudenbach, which were merged on 1 July 1972 on the new community Kleinkahl.

Coat of Arms history The split of silver and blue wave pile refers to the geographical location of the village on the river Kahl, which flows through the village. Since the local government reform of 1970 the community is Kleinkahl of five districts: Kleinkahl and small Laudenbach on the left bank of Kahl, Kahl Great and Great Laudenbach on the right bank. Edelsbach is a little further away. The river, which has its origin removed 2 to 3 km, in the Middle Ages was a political border. The glass in the front crest is part of a so-called " Spechter " and refers to the local glass production since the Middle Ages. The silver and red are the colors of the Mainz Kurstaats to which the territory belonged until 1803. The rear half coat of arms shows the coat of arms of Ulner Dieburg family, an aristocratic family that is proven from the 15th to the 17th century in the municipality. The Ulnersche coat of arms was not only taken for this family in the coat of arms, but also as an indication of the Counts of Rieneck and Schoenberg. The coat of arms has been operational since 18 October 1985.
