Klemen Pretnar

Klemen Pretnar ( born August 31, 1986 in Bled) is a Slovenian ice hockey player who is under contract with the EC Villach SV in the Erste Bank Hockey League since September 2012.

Career

Beginnings in Bled and change to Kranj

Klemen Pretnar learned the Hockey game in his home town of Bled, where he still lives today. There he played for both the young HK MK Bled, as well as for the ( semi-) professional team of HK Bled. After the 2002/ 03 season made ​​the HK Bled a game operation and Pretnar first played on for his junior club, before transferring to HK Triglav Kranj. For this he was active in the following years in the U20 junior league, the Slovenian Hockey League and the Inter League. He increased his point yield continuously and developed into an offensive defender, who convinces particularly through its passing game. During the 2008/ 09 season of HK Jesenice became aware of Pretnar and signed him for the farm team, the HD mladi Jesenice.

Successes in Jesenice

From 2009 he became a permanent first-team squad for the HK Jesenice and won this in 2010 and 2011, the Slovenian championship, after the club had participated in each of the regular season game on the operation of the Erste Bank Hockey League. Also the jump in this professional league mastered Pretnar with success - it was in season 2009/10 4 points scorer, he scored in the following game time already 15 points.

In the 2011/12 season he was among the top performers of the team. During the season 2011/12 HK Jesenice faced serious financial difficulties and put the game mode after the end of season one. Therefore Pretnar was initially without a club. 2012 Pretnar was invited to a try-out by EC VSV shortly before the start of the season, in which the head coach Hannu Järvenpää impressed by his style of play and speed. During the season, his contract was extended by two years ahead of schedule.

Internationally

Klemen Pretnar was from the early 2000s to the cadres of the Slovenian junior national teams. In 2004 he took part with the U18 selection of the country at the U18 World Junior Championships Division I. Further deployments at youth level he had at the U20 World Championships Division I 2005 and 2006.

In the men's field Pretnar belonged from 2009 to the extended national squad and completed his first major tournament at the World Championship Division I in 2010. This placed first reached the summit in the top division. A year later, at the World Cup 2011, the Slovenes, however, had to accept the re descent. 2012 did not take Pretnar part in the World Cup, but was called into the squad for the Olympic qualifiers in 2013. This qualification tournament in February 2013 defeated the Slovenes Belarus, Denmark and Ukraine and qualify therefore for the Olympic Winter Games 2014.

On January 6, 2014 Pretnar was nominated for the Olympic squad of Slovenian men's national team for the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
