Klement Steinmetz

Klement Steinmetz ( * March 23, 1915; † 2 May 2001) was an Austrian football player. The striker won the Austrian amateur team at the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936 the silver medal.

Career

Klement Steinmetz played at Kapfenberg SC in the Styrian league. The League was then aligned on amateur basis and was not related to the professional Austrian championship in connection, limited at that time only on the Wiener space. However, with the Kapfenbergern the runners had mostly defeated in the championship Grazer team.

From coach Jimmy Hogan, he was still taken to the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, although he had until then not played a game for the Austrian amateur national. As a center forward Klement Steinmetz was in the first two games one of the most outstanding player, scored three goals. However, after the scandal against Peru it turned out due to injury and had to be replaced by Franz Mandl. Up to the Olympic final against Italy Klement Steinmetz was able to be fit again, but no longer connect to the match qualities in the first two games. With the team he eventually lost the final with 1:2 after extra time.

From 1938 he played in the top division at SK Amateurs Steyr in Graz and SC tram.
