Kleť

The Kleť (formerly also Plánská hora, German Schöninger ) is with 1083 meters the highest mountain of the Blanský ( Blansky Forest) in the Czech Republic. The mountain is located about 8 km north of the town of Český Krumlov and is a popular destination.

The Kleť was earlier because of his wild wealth a preferred hunting ground of the rule Krumlov. Joseph Johann Nepomuk zu Schwarzenberg suggested the tourist development of the mountain, leaving 1822-1825 erect a stone observation tower, which was named in his honor Prince -Joseph- tower. From the oldest stone lookout tower in Bohemia one recognizes the Alps near distance vision. On the initiative of Theresia zu Schwarzenberg next to the tower was a mountain cottage, the cottage Theresa.

From the Editor Kleť - a 175 -meter-high radio mast - be since 1959, and later television programs broadcast radio programs.

On the mountain there are two amateur radio relay.

On their own power built Astronomy Friends 1958-1961 on the Kleť an observatory. And situated in 1,070 m altitude Kleť Observatory is the highest of Bohemia and has the largest refracting telescope in the Czech Republic.

From the north-east of the mountain situated and belonging to the community Holubov village Krasetín - Podluzi leads since 1961, a year-round chairlift over a length of 1,783 m to the summit, overcoming a difference in altitude of 383 m.

From Cesky Krumlov from the Kleť run is started every year. In winter, the mountain is used for downhill skiing.

There are Buchenwald stocks on the mountain slopes, parts of the mountain was in 1956 declared a nature reserve that covers an area of 0.65 km ².
