The University Hospital Aachen ipc ( in the external representation since 2013 University Hospital RWTH Aachen ) is the University Hospital of the RWTH Aachen. It is located in one of the largest hospital building in Europe in the West in the district of Aachen Lauren Berg, in the immediate vicinity of Vaals in the Netherlands. About 4,667 full-time equivalents ( 5,658 heads) in 33 clinics and 25 institutes supplied in 2008 a total of 44 768 inpatients and 225 727 patients. The personnel expenses in 2008 amounted to approximately 239.6 million euros and the cost of materials 93.6 million euros.

History

From the City Hospital of Aachen, was commissioned in 1966, the Medical Faculty of the RWTH Aachen University Hospital forth. The site of the old hospital at the Aachener Straße Goethe was indeed vast, but most departments were housed in pavilions. The tight space and the rapidly increasing numbers of patients required a new building in Melaten district, which of the Aachen architects Weber & Fire was designed and begun in 1971. After gradually made reference from 1984, the grand opening was held on 21 March 1985. Since then, teaching, research and patient care are housed in a building. The total construction cost of the hospital with 1,600 beds and 52 operating theaters amounted to 2.06 billion DM (about 1.05 billion euros ) in 1971, 571 million DM (about 292 million euros ) had been accepted. The pavilion of the old hospital was demolished, filled the basement and built a park.

Early 1984, accused the Federal Court of the State Government before failures in management and control of the construction project. So this called for a halt to the Federal participation on the agreed 1.7 billion DM and examining the possibility of recourse to the land. The state of North Rhine -Westphalia, in turn, raised allegations against the developer because of inadequate planning and set up a commission of inquiry of the Diet.

Building

The main building is a reinforced concrete skeleton construction, has a length of 257 m and a width of 134 m and is accessed vertically by 24 stairwells with 54 m height. The stairwells extend beyond 9 m from the eight storey buildings. [Note 1] The framework is extensible in all directions and mostly has a deep foundation bored piles. The net floor area is 130,000 square meters. The neighboring two-storey building supply has horizontal dimensions of 95 m length and 131 m width at a height of 12 m. On September 1, 1971, started with the structural work that had been completed in late 1973. The stairwells were first produced with in-situ concrete and slipform, the remaining components were finished parts. It was time, the largest building site in Europe.

The appearance of the building is both outwardly unusual even indoors. The color of flooring, doors and wall elements is almost continuously kept in green, silver and yellow colors on the ceilings extend the supply media (heating, ventilation, etc. ) mostly undisguised. The resulting fringe patterns may affect sensitive individuals as migraine appeal.

Owing to the visible building, in conjunction with the equally visible structure of a reinforced concrete skeleton construction, the Aachen Hospital is seen as representative of the so-called " technical modernity", as well as the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. Because of its architectural design principle of repetition uniform building structures, the building is classified in the context of structuralism. The hospital stands as " most important testimony of the high-tech architecture in Germany " since the end of November, 2008 under monument protection. The building must be constantly adapted as a hospital and medical school to the technical requirements. In particular, the distinctive ventilation pipes to the elevator shafts threatens the demo days at a dismantling of the air conditioning. In addition, the window of the previously fully air-conditioned building would have to be replaced.

Between 2007 and 2012 a major reorganization and restructuring of the care area ( floors 7-9) of each western two buildings teeth ( corridors 1 and 2 as well as corridors 19 and 20) was performed. After two phases, the construction work was completed in late 2012, without further four planned phases of construction to begin ( in each case the south). Currently, the newly founded UKAfacilities GmbH is planning a renovation system in which only one corridor is to be renovated in order to not reduce the bed capacity to an extent during the work, as it had been necessary in the dental point conversion.

On 5 May 2010 the construction of a helicopter landing site was started immediately prior to the main building. From the landing platform in about fifteen meters patients can be transported without the aid of secondary transport via an inclined elevator directly to the emergency room of the hospital. The new landing site was inaugurated on July 9, 2011 as part of an " open day " in which visitors were allowed to enter the platform. The control operations started on August 3, 2011 in the morning hours with a patient transport by Christoph Europa 1
