Kloosterkerk, The Hague

The Kloosterkerk is an Evangelical Uniate church in the center of the Dutch city of The Hague, which belongs to the Protestant Church in the Netherlands. Members of the Dutch Royal Family visit here regularly worship.

History

The grounds of the Kloosterkerk had Count Albrecht of Bavaria- Holland paid in 1393 on an Amsterdam monastery, but sold it to the lords of Arkel, who had built a castle here. Here About it came to conflict with Albrecht, the reacquired the site, let abort the buildings and the grounds now handed over to the Dominicans in Utrecht. This established a branch here, which they dedicated to St. Vincent. The present church was built as a monastery church of the Dominicans. 1574 had to take off the Dominicans. The demolition of the monastery and the church prevented protests from the city's population. A little later used parts of the population, however, the building as a quarry. After state intervention, the church in 1588 was converted into a stable and served for the next year as cannon foundry. Since 1617 Kloosterkerk again served liturgical purposes. The other monastery buildings were used as an armory in 1690 and destroyed in an explosion.

Organ

The organ of the church was built in 1966 by organ builder Marcussen. The instrument has 40 stops on three manuals and pedal. The tracker action are mechanical.
