Castle Klusen stone

The Klusen stone castle is located on a 60 meter high cliff at the edge of Hönnetals in the field of Hemer. It was built in 1353 and was a border fortification of the County of Mark to the adjacent territory Kurkölns and the County of Arnsberg. Together with the surrounding buildings is the Castle district Klusen the stone.

History

The hill fort was in 1353 by Gerhard von Plettenberg, a bailiff of Count Engelbert III. built by the cord. Levold of Northof (1279-1359), the chronicler of Count Engelbrecht III. , Wrote

" In denseluen jair, as the VURS. Greue Engelbrecht reysden except sea, beghan Gerit van Plettenberg Brecht in afwesen of Greuen dat slot ind Stat to nyenraide in Suderlande to tymmeren ind OICK Slot th Cluysensteyn. ( Traveling in the same year, as Count Engelbrecht ( Engelbert ) over the sea, Gerhard von Plettenberg, the castle and the town Neuenrade in Sauerland began in the absence of the Counts of rooms, and also the Klusen flintlock. ) "

During the feud between Graf Engelbert Graf Gottfried IV von Arnsberg and the castle was besieged, but could not be captured. However, after Godfrey had sold the county of Arnsberg to the Bishop of Cologne, the castle lost its strategic importance.

Until the 17th century the family of Werminghausen lived at the castle. In 1695 the castle was purchased by the family Brabeck. In 1812 they acquired the family Löbbecke, 1904, the company Hoesch. Today it is leased and owned by the company Rheinkalk.

1990 different parts of the castle were put under a preservation order.

On the occasion of the 650 - year celebration 2003, the castle and the adjacent farm buildings have been renovated.

The castle has a basement room, starting a now bricked emergency exit through a chimney of the great castle cave.
