Knapdale

Knapdale ( Scottish Gaelic Cnapadal ) is a rural district in the Argyll and Bute region of Scotland. It is immediately north of the Loch of Tarbert on the Kintyre peninsula adjoining region. Live here (in 2010 ) less than 2,400 people. Knapdale includes the districts of North Knapdale and South Knapdale. The district is one of the Scottish National Scenic Areas.

Knapdale has a large forest, which was planted in the 1930s. It was one of the measures that have been carried out against the then unemployment. One of the workers employed in reforestation many people who had worked in the mines and heavy industry in Scotland included. During the Second World War were in Knapdale some camp for prisoners of war. Knapdale should also be the place where tentatively in Scotland of here originally native European beaver is reintroduced. After a long discussion with conservation organizations such as the Scottish Natural Heritage, the Scottish Government has now given its approval to begin in spring 2009 with the reintroduction.
