Kneese

Kneese is a municipality in the southwest of the district of North West in Mecklenburg -Vorpommern ( Germany ). The municipality consists of the villages Kneese, Kneese Dorf, Dutzow and sand box and is administered by the Office Gadebusch based in the same city.

Geography

The community Kneese is located on the border to Schleswig -Holstein in the hilly area between Gadebusch and the Schaalsee. The border runs through the Bernstorfer lake and the lake Niendorf, both lakes have northern foothills of the Schaalsees whose southern and eastern portions as well as the area around Kneese are located in the UNESCO-listed biosphere reserve Schaalsee. In the south, the municipality borders the district of Ludwigsburg pleasure Parchim.

Location on the former inner German border

The bathing area Kneeses am Schaalsee located where before 1990 the border installations of the GDR were installed. The former border troop barracks have been converted into condominiums. Since Kneese was in the restricted area, the residents had to live with severe restrictions. A part of the district Dutzow was demolished because it was too close to the border. Today connects a bridge, completed in 1993 Kneese with the neighboring community of Kittlitz. On October 3, the day of German unity, a common festival takes place every year.

Transport links

12 km northeast of Kneese lies the small town Gadebusch, the town of Ratzeburg is about 15 km away. In both places there are connections to the national motorway network (B 208, B 207 and B 104) and connected by train to Schwerin and Lubeck.
