Action

The six-year Lillebror moved with his parents and older brother to the country. There are far and wide no playmates. As he hits the speaking wood figure Knerten, actually a fallen tree from the road. This is the beginning of a unique and unusual friendship. Father's business is bad and the recently acquired house is greatly in need of repair. So mother has to work in the grocery store to supplement the family budget. Since there is no nursery on site, Lillebror may accompany his mother to work. which promises exciting adventures. He plays in front of the door or roams the area for returnable bottles - always Knerten with him. He developed an enormous protective instinct for Knerten because two peers have it in for his wooden friend. He spares no effort to free Knerten from the clutches of nasty predators. Less virtuous, however, its development as a pledge robbers, not just discarded bottles wander into his backpack.

His family is gradually annoyed by Lillebrors childlike imagination. A talking Branch, a dragon in the forest, a princess on a horse - no one wants to believe him so well. Only the village carpenter understands and helps him to build even a bed for Knerten. While Lillebrors fieberiger cold makes Aunt Malhiermalda, the heart and soul of the village during the day for the boys and brings occasionally one of her other proteges with. On such days, Lillebror barricaded in his room. He fears, one of the village children could have it apart again on his wooden figure Knerten. But with a careful look out of his window he sees the princess out of the woods again. Elated, he builds from his barricade and carefully approaches the girl. Criticism

" A lovable charming children's film showing with disarming sincerity, how liberating it can be to face the world was open-minded. Themes of friendship and acceptance, family solidarity and affection are unobtrusively integrated into the joyous act. "

Criticized by Heiko Thiele Filmreporter.de that the nightmare scenes are too scary for small children. Also Bianka Piringer of cinefacts.de noticed pedagogically incorrect scenes, so for example the Flask of the nanny at Christmas, but praises again that this " history give a more realistic note."
