Knetzgau
Knetzgau is a municipality in the district Haßberge in the east of the Bavarian Regierungsbezirk of Lower Franconia. It is located on Main, about five kilometers southeast of Hassfurt on the edge of the Hassberge.

History
The first written mention was made about the year 780 in the Ilbicschen deed of gift, in which the place is called by the name Knetzcegewe. Knetzgau was part of the Office of the Prince-Bishopric of Bamberg Zeil, which belonged to the Frankish Empire Circle from 1500, and fell in the kingdom in 1803 to Bavaria. In the course of boundary settlements occurred in 1810 with the Office Zeil to the Grand Duchy of Würzburg and with this 1814 final to Bayern.
Incorporations
On 1 January 1973, until then independent municipality Wohnau was incorporated. On July 1, 1974 Eschenau, West came home at Haßfurt and cell added at Ebersberg. Larger parts of the territory of the dissolved municipality Hainert followed on 1 January 1976.

The 3400 Catholics of the community Knetzgau with its seven villages belong to the parish community Knetzgau.

- 2009, the Bavaria -3- village festival was held in Knetzgau.
- The district Eschenau was the scene of severe child abuse affair, discussed in numerous media reports and an autobiographical book.
