Knife rest

A Knife (also: knife Bank) is used to store the used cutlery to have the plate freely and not to soil the table, tablecloth or other documents.

There Knife in different versions:

  • Classic: cross bar on X-stand
  • Modern: Transverse small block
  • Special shapes: small figures or animals ( porcelain)

The cutlery resting on the knife rests at about the point at which pass the handle to the blade or the Essteil of spoon and fork, the handle end resting on the table and extend the front part of the knife rest out into the air.

In the Japanese food culture with the Hashioki (Japanese箸置き, lit chopstick holder) used a similar tableware.

On a slightly different type knife bank can also keep kitchen knife. The knife rest is then a block of wood with cutouts for the knife, on which they are poised with the cutting edge down.
