Knockando distillery

Knockando [ ˌ knɔkandu ˑ ], Gaelic Cnoc -an- dubh black hills, is a whiskey distillery in Knockando, Morayshire, Scotland. The distillery is part of the spirits group Diageo (formerly United Distillers ), the whiskey is marketed as part of the Classic Malts series of operations.

History

Knockando Distillery was founded in 1898 by Ian Thomson on the banks of the River Spey. The founding of the distillery followed by a period of over-production, followed by the collapse of the whiskey industry, which so many distilleries were killed. From 1900 to 1904 Knockando was closed. Then it was at a very low price of GBP 3,500 to W & A Gilbey Ltd.. sold. In 1952 it was taken over by Justerini & Brooks. 1969 the number of stills was doubled from 2 to 4. Knockando 1975 went to IDV / Grand Metropolitan. The one billionth bottle of Knockando was bottled in the presence of the then Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in 1985.

Production

The distillery now has an annual production of 1.5 million liters of alcohol. Knockando is an important part of the J & B blends. Since 2005, Knockando is one of the Classic Malts.

Products

Knockando single malt whiskeys are bottled as vintage whiskeys, which means they carry the distillation year and the bottling year on the bottle. The standard single malt is 12 years old and has 43 vol - % alcohol. Other fillings are available with 18 and 21 years.
