Knud Lyne Rahbek

Knud Lyne Rahbek ( born December 18, 1760 Copenhagen, † April 22, 1830 same place ) was a Danish writer.

While studying in Copenhagen made ​​his first literary attempts. In 1782 he traveled to Germany and Paris. After his return to Copenhagen, he edited the influential literary monthly magazine for the Danish Minerva. After his appointment as professor of aesthetics in 1790, he founded in 1791, the weekly paper The danske Tilskuer. In 1798 he married Karen Magareta Heger. In 1799 he resigned his professorship and became a teacher of history at a private institute. In 1805 he took over the board of which he initiated, theater school, in 1809 he became a member of the theater management. In 1816 he took up his professorship for aesthetics again.

Knud Lyne Rahbek was a prolific writer and the quality of his plays is something rather doubtful. His stories have a much higher literary level. Particularly important is its influence on the literary development in Denmark at the time.
